The newly appointed UN Ethiopia Head Ozonnia Ojielo presented copies of his credentials to Ethiopian Government.
The UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Ethiopia presented copies of his credentials to Dr. Aziza Geleta, Director General of Protocol Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.
During the meeting, the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator expressed condolences on behalf of the United Nations over the recent mudslide in Gamo, which claimed the lives of Ethiopians. He said the UN would continue supporting the Government’s ongoing response efforts.
He also underscored the UN’s commitment to working closely with Ethiopian institutions and development partners, emphasizing that the UN Country Team will continue aligning its support with the country’s development priorities, including economic growth, social services and institutional strengthening.
Dr. Geleta underlined the importance of the United Nations’ role in supporting Ethiopia’s efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She highlighted the longstanding cooperation between Ethiopia and the UN system and noted the significant contributions of the UN entities in the country towards supporting development priorities of the people of Ethiopia.
The Director General also pledged that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would extend all necessary support to the newly appointed Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, enabling him to effectively discharge his responsibilities in line with established national and multilateral frameworks.
