UN staff, senior Ethiopian government officials, youth and members of the diplomatic corps celebrated the United Nations Day in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) Executive Secretary a.i., Mr. Antonio Pedro, delivered the message of the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, for this year’s United Nations Day.
“The United Nations is guided by timeless values and principles, but it must never be frozen in time. That is why we must always keep strengthening ways of working and applying a 21st century lens to all we do.”
“On this United Nations Day, let us commit with hope and determination to build the better world of our aspirations.”
In his address to the event held in the premises of the UNECA, State Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Mesganu Arga Ambassador Mesganu underscored that Ethiopia, as one of the founding members of the UN, would always be an ardent proponent of the principles of the UN Charter.
The State Minister also stressed that Ethiopia has been a proud and profound voice of multilateral diplomacy in the UN system, and pledged to advance the unique partnership between the UN and Africa.
Ambassador Mesganu further called upon the international community to recommit to the spirit of the UN Charter, and to meaningful and urgent reforms of the current global architecture.
