An oath to myself and to other persons with disabilities.
At the UNICEF-supported visually impaired boarding school in Mekelle, Tigray region, students with disabilities like Shewit are provided with disability-friendly learning materials as well as well trained teachers.
‘My name is Shewit. I am a 16-year-old visually impaired student living in the Tigray region of Ethiopia.
I want to become a lawyer because I have made an oath to myself to change my community.
I am struggling day in and day out to create a better future for myself and fight the discriminations that are coming my way.
Even though I fear of getting lost in the process, I desire to grow and push forward, training and educating myself.
I thank God every day that I can learn, read and write. If my dream comes true, I'll help persons with disabilities first.’
Thanks to the financial support from the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, visually impaired students like Shewit can learn and dream.
